A quick reference for the terms used across AskThis.

Product

Widget — the framework-free, embeddable script that adds social and “Ask AI” share buttons to a page.

Ask AI button — a button that opens an AI assistant (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, …) with a pre-built, source-citing prompt for the current page.

AI Graph tags — ai:* meta tags (like Open Graph, but for answer engines) that tell AI how to read and cite a page. See AI Graph tags.

llms.txt — a generated file that gives AI assistants a clean, structured view of a site’s content.

Cited Ask / Ask Protocol — the portable, source-citing prompt format and the open protocol behind the “Ask AI” handoff. The spec lives at askthis.dev.

Analytics

AI intent signal — the signal of what people ask AI about, aggregated across publishers. The core of the data platform.

AI Intent Score — one number (0–100) for how much of a site’s audience turns a visit into an AI action. See Analytics & the AI Intent Score.

Citation Monitor — tracks whether answer engines cite a site (or a competitor) for chosen queries. Business and above; Beta.

Credits — usage-based allowance consumed by AI actions like generating or regenerating prompts. See Plans, credits & invoices.

Data & privacy

Segment — an audience defined by page type × platform, licensed by data buyers.

k-anonymity — the guarantee that data is only served above a minimum cohort size (a floor of 50), so individuals can’t be singled out.

Pseudonymous / hashed identifier — identifiers are hashed at ingestion; AskThis holds no names, emails, or clear-text IPs.

Consent at ingestion — consent is applied at the edge, before data enters the pipeline.
